Mission 1:
Economy of Means
Nature seeks the path of least resistance, revealing the essence of design through simplicity. For our artist/client, a personal studio inspired by Queen Anne timber framing became a place to explore meaning through fiber, clay, glass, and paint.

Honoring History
Historic context shaped the design of this senior living facility in downtown Idaho Springs. Inspired by a nearby wrought iron bridge, the front entry reflects the area’s character. The building honors its setting while offering residents a meaningful connection to the past.

Mission 3: Connecting People, Purpose, and Place
Intention guides the development of the project’s character, spatial relationships, form, materials, and building systems. The Thrust Theatre, Black Box, Dance Studios, and Concert Hall were carved from the original 1924 building and a 1950s gym addition. Our clients described the desired acoustics as a sound chamber within a guitar.

Mission 4: Pursuing Craftsmanship
A finely crafted design brings about a well-constructed building. This new church united two Catholic parishes for shared worship, with stone masonry completed by the grandson of the mason who built the original St. Joseph Parish in downtown Grand Junction.

Mission 5: Seeking the Awe and Wonder of Nature
The strength for the design is derived from a unified scheme which integrates beauty, utility, and durability. The church is located within proximity to the University of Colorado, in the shadow of the Flatirons, and connects two existing buildings with a common gathering space.

Mission 6: Investigating Inspired Creation
Inspiration opens our senses to an intuitive response to a design mystery. Seven ancient churches are suspended on the cliffs of a small island on the east coast of Greece, bordered by the Aegean Sea.

Mission 7: Retaining Ecosystem Dignity
Through experiencing the physical world, we can open our imagination to the environmental and life forces that have shaped it. The design solution should be respectful of the ecosystem that inhabits the land and the physical influences of weather, water, and geology ,which will continue to shape it.
